BK 46 is again Finnish handball champion Nico Ronnberg unstoppable

Karjaan BK-46 is celebrating the second consecutive Finnish men’s handball championship. BK-46 defeated Riihimäki Cocks in the finals with a 3–2 win.

Karjaan BK-46 celebrates the men’s Finnish handball championship. BK-46 beat Riihimäki Cocks, who entered the final series as favorites, 3–2. Cocks lost to BK-46 26–34 (15–21) in the deciding match played at Riihimäki.

BK-46 shone as the number one stick Nico Rönnberg, who scored 13 goals. Rönnberg forged 103 hits in the playoffs and won the goal exchange in superior style. Rönnberg scored a whopping 18 goals in the third match of the final series.

– Difficult to find words. Great feeling! The whole team had a lot of will and 110 on the glass at both ends. We took away Cocks’ strengths, the right wing didn’t score easy goals today, Rönnberg, the hero of the WC gold team, told Urheilu.

Cocks suffered their first home defeat of the season on Saturday. In the decisive match, Cocks’ best scorer was Edson Imare, who scored eight goals. The people from Riihimäki won eight Finnish championships in a row from 2013-2021.

“An incredible spring”

Cocks went to the playoffs from the top spot in the SC continuation series, but BK-46 was at its best at the season’s climax.

– This season against Cocks, we have had difficulties getting into the goal posts. But now we found the will and the feeling on the offensive end to score goals, Rönnberg said.

The goalkeeper who saved BK-46 as a champion Mikael Heinonen said that the final matches were the best possible advertisement for domestic handball.

– I don’t remember when such a high-quality final series was played. We had an incredible spring. We entered the final series as underdogs, but our team is full of winners. When the moment comes when you have to win, everyone raises their level, Heinonen praised the championship team.

Grankulla IFK (Kauniainen) celebrated the women’s Finnish championship earlier in the spring.
