On June 26, activist Teesta Setalvad is taken by counter-terrorism police to Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat. The police accuse him of having fomented against Narendra Modi by seeking to hold him responsible for the riots which took place under his rule in this state.

It is from the same elements in charge of the Gujarat Special Investigation Cell that Sonia Gandhi is threatened today. According to the BJP, the President of the Congress met the activist in secret and paid him large sums to tarnish the image of Gujarat.

Another Member of Parliament would have taken the wallet. The late Congressman Ahmed Patel is also said to have been involved in this “conspiracy”.

Nearly a thousand people, mostly Muslims, died in 2002 during riots in Gujarat. Narendra Modi has since been regularly accused of remaining passive, but was cleared by the Supreme Court.

Congress has called the Gujarat Police allegations “fabricated”. According to the major opposition party, Narendra Modi is seeking to absolve himself of all responsibility for the 2002 massacres, through a strategy of systematic harassment of all his critics.
