Third in the overall World Cup last season.
But this year, Sebastian Samuelsson can go all the way.
Björn Ferry thinks so – who now gives the most powerful tribute to the Swedish star.
– It is quite possible, he says.
It was an absolutely incredible biathlon winter for our Swedish stars last year. On the women’s side, Elvira Öberg had a sensational breakthrough, when she came second in the overall World Cup. On the women’s side, there are also Hanna Öberg and Stina Nilsson as big poster names, but also on the men’s side things look better than they have in a long time.
Powerful divination
Sebastian Samuelsson has been the most prominent Swedish men’s skater in recent years, and last season was by far the best of his career. He finished third in the overall World Cup standings, and his summer suggests that something even better could be in store.
Björn Ferry, former top biathlete and now expert at SVT, believes that Sebastian Samuelsson can become the first Swede to win the overall World Cup since Mikael Löfgren did it in 1993.
– It is quite possible, because he has all the parts required for it. He is a man to win the overall World Cup and the roller belt he bought is a trump card that can make a big difference to the margins. I know that he has been training well with the band for several months, and it is difficult for competitors to copy that setup, says Björn Ferry to SVT.

Paying tribute to another Swede
Björn Ferry also believes that it is worth keeping your eyes open for Martin Ponsiluoma. He has established himself as a sprint expert, but in recent years has become smoother overall.
– Of course I want to mention Martin Ponsiluoma, but I don’t believe in him as much as I do in Samuelsson. He has shown what a fantastic top level he possesses, but unfortunately does not have an even level in shooting, says Ferry.
The biathlon season starts on Tuesday, as usual in Kontiolahti. In the premiere, however, Ferry does not believe in any Swede at the top of the podium.
– I’m guessing Johannes Thingnes Bö. He seems to be fit and well, went fast in the Norwegian premiere and is always a winner candidate, he says.
