The Swedish biathlon ladies failed today.
Hanna Öberg fared worst in the World Cup sprint.
Now the SVT expert Björn Ferry expresses his great concern for the national team star.
Friday’s sprint race at the World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria, was no highlight for our Swedish biathlon ladies. Not a single Swede made the top 10 and Elvira Öberg missed the podium for the first time this season.
Hanna Öberg’s fiasco
Lillasyster Öberg led the overall World Cup in biathlon before the sprint, but after four hurdles it was 25th place. It was even worse for the older sister Hanna Öberg which missed three times and fell like a stone in the scoreboard.

In the end, it was a 66th place for the Swedish national team star and this means that she misses the start of the hunt entirely this weekend. The start of the season has been very tough for Hanna who recently came back from a cold and this race was a fiasco.
– It’s still tough for Hanna. She was in bed for two weeks and her body didn’t feel quite right then. We have to analyze how we do going forward, says the national team coach John Luke in SVT after the race.
– It is not alarming, because there is a clear explanation. I’m not worried, it’s a natural thing when you’ve been sick. We think it has gone well in training, but we have to make a good plan going forward. She is obviously disappointed, but tonight we have to sit down and talk to find a long-term plan. We will do the best for her.
Björn Ferry’s criticism
But another is getting very worried about Hanna Öberg.
– Yes, she has had a cold before and, of course, it usually shows – but not this much. Still, she has been healthy for three weeks so something should start to happen. Why does it have to be this slow? She should be able to ride like the others now that she is no longer ill. She is one minute behind herself, says the SVT expert Bjorn Ferry in the broadcast.

Ferry now rules Öberg out of riding the relay this weekend. Which then means that she has finished skiing in Hochfilzen for this World Cup competition.
– Right now it is doubtful whether she will ride the relay. Now the others have also impressed, so it will be difficult to justify bringing Hanna Öberg along. I don’t think she drives, says the biathlon expert.
