The Swedish biathlon star Elvira Öberg went into this year’s Biathlon World Cup with high hopes. And that she would finally win her very first individual medal in the context of the WC.
Öberg’s disappointment
It also started well with WC bronze already in the opening race when Sweden came third in the mixed relay. But since then, nothing has gone right for little sister Öberg or for any Swede for that matter.

Elvira shot away in the sprint, missed a medal right at the start of the chase and Tuesday evening’s distance race was another miscalculation. She rode a full four barriers and also had the worst riding time of the Swedes.
Ferry’s honest words
Now the SVT expert also raises Helena Ekholm the voice to poke Elvira Öberg in the women’s relay on Saturday.
– If I go completely by the feeling I got today (yesterday), I would probably put Elvira over, she says to the TV channel after the distance race.
– Elvira and Hanna feel like they belong in a team, as they have shown before. Today, Elvira did not show her riding form or on the shooting range. It’s clever, says the SVT colleague Elisabeth Högberg.

Elvira and Hanna Öberg are the two biggest stars in the women’s national team and poking one of them would be a serious stance by the national team manager John Luke. The TV expert Bjorn Ferry has also been critical during the Biathlon World Cup but is now fighting back and taking Elvira Öberg in defense.

He goes against Ekholm and wants to see the Swedish biathlon star in the ladies’ relay.
– It is primarily about trying to win, not racing for a medal. Then I will take out Elvira Öberg to drive. But then I will also take out Linn Persson, she has only fired a round once. Hanna Öberg and Anna Magnusson are obvious, says Ferry to SVT.
