Björn Ferry comments on Linn Gestblom’s future as a biathlon

Linn Gestblom is still recovering after the last shoulder operation.
Now SVT expert Björn Ferry says what he thinks about her future.

– It should be remembered that elite sports are not a wellness business. It’s a tough life, he tells SVT Sport.

She operated her shoulder for the second time after the World Cup in Czech Nove Mesto in February last year. Since then, has Linn Gestblom30, rehabilitated to get back to the biathlon. She has set up all season and is investing in the Olympics in Milan 2026.

Björn Ferry’s judgment about Gestblom

Gestblom herself thinks it is very slow for her to recover and strengthen the injured shoulder. She has come up with a backup plan if the problem does not disappear soon – it is to change sides to shoot away. She has been shooting from the right for 20 years, so it is clear that it would take time to change.
– The backup plan has been to change sides that I shoot from, if I do not get back the mobility in the shoulder, she tells SVT Sport.

SVT’s biathlon expert Björn Ferry46, now says what he thinks about her opportunity to change sides.
– I would say that is very difficult to change and shoot from the other side. There are examples of that. A Norwegian who got a poor view of one eye and he switched and shot from the other direction and became a good shooter. So it’s done. But it will require a lot of work and it will be like playing guitar the other way. It does not automatically, he tells SVT Sport.

Björn Ferry thinks Linn is coming back

However, he is convinced that Linn, once she comes back in full shape, can be involved in the top again.
– I definitely think Linn can do that. If she is just injury -free and can train fully then I think she can come back next year, he says.

The risk is that she will continue to compete half -injured, which she has done in itself for a year.
– That’s what it is. It should be remembered that elite sports are not a wellness business. It’s a tough life. It’s a life on the border. Anyone who has run an entire elite career and never had any harm, they most likely have not really tried. It’s just a sign that Linn spans the bow. That she really does what it takes. And trying. So so far she has made extremely good results, even though she has had injury problems for many years. My God, she took two individual medals at the World Cup in Oberhof with the problems she had, he says.

Good luck with the rehabilitation, Linn Gestblom! Hope you soon get better in the shoulder.
