Swedish tennis is in great sadness after the terrible news.
Former player and coach Peter Lundgren has passed away.
Now close friend Björn Borg opens up about the difficult feelings.
Today came the news that one of Swedish tennis’ big profiles has fallen asleep. Peter Lundgren turned 59 years old and will be well remembered.
Lundgren is dead
He broke through as a tennis player in the 1980s, winning three ATP titles and reaching a world ranking of 25th. After the active career, he became a very successful coach and managed the big star Roger Federer to his very first Wimbledon title.

Now Lundgren is mourned throughout the tennis world and above all by his loved ones.
“Rest in peace Dad. One of the main ones has unfortunately left us far too soon. A coach, player, friend and father. An inspiration and helping hand for many, both on and off the track. The impression you made and the memories will always live on,” writes the son Lukas Lundgren on Facebook.
Björn Borg’s grief
The icon Björn Borg became good friends with Lundgren and they trained a lot together. Now he opens up his heart after the tragic death.
– I heard that he passed away. Peter Lundgren was a wonderful person with a big heart and a lot of humor. He was a really good friend. He was loved by all. He will be missed in the tennis world, says Borg to Aftonbladet.

Even the big player Stefan Edberg remembers Peter with warmth.
– I will remember Peter Lundgren as a warm person with a big heart. He had great tennis skills. There are many wonderful tennis memories from the junior days and the tour, he tells the evening newspaper.
Activate the tennis player Elias Ymer have also reacted with sadness to the death notice.
“I’m sorry Lukas! A fantastic person has left us,” writes Ymer on Facebook to his son.
