Magnus and his eleven-year-old son Teodor thought they were looking down into a foxhole.
But suddenly a big bear came rushing towards them at full speed.
– When I walk up, I see a little nose there. Then I take half a step back. I don’t have time to do more than that, then this bear rushes straight up towards Theodor, says Magnus Löf in “Efter fem”.
Eleven-year-old Teodor Löf was out on his first elk hunt this weekend, together with father Magnus Löf in Edsbyn, Gävleborg. They had the dog Gunnar with them.
Suddenly the dog started marking by barking at one place. Magnus and Teodor caught sight of what they thought was a fox pot. Something they assumed because another hunter had seen a fox just before. With that would turn out to be a bear idea.
They looked down the hole and saw something sticking out. Then everything escalates quickly.
– When I walk up, I see a little nose there. Then I take half a step back. I don’t have time to do more than that, then this bear rushes straight up towards Teodor, says Magnus Löf.
“Hopefully it would die”
Magnus then acted quickly and shot the bear, which died. Teodor Löf says that he immediately thought of the dog Gunnar.
– I just had time to get scared that our dog would get hurt.
He was pleased that the father managed to shoot the bear directly and prevent anyone from getting hurt.
– I was a little happy and hoped it would die, says Teodor Löf.
Going out hunting again
The friends at school have reacted and think that the incident is scary, but Teodor has no doubts about whether he should venture out into the forest again.
– Yes, I will.
