Before Brad Pitt returns to the big screen with the action hit Bullet Train, we stumbled across some exciting trivia info on one of his best roles ever. It’s about his great performance as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s masterful Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
An easy-going stuntman, Pitt scored some great scenes in the Hollywood tribute. One in particular stands out: Shortly before the bloody finale, Booth lights up Cigarette dipped in LSD and experiences the ensuing violence while tripping and not fully assessing the situation.
Brad Pitt in Tarantino Masterpiece: The LSD scene wasn’t originally scripted
The comedic element is an important contrast to the brutal events. Without the LSD trip, the scene would look completely different. As Pitt revealed in a 2019 interview with the New York Times (via Slashfilm), the trip wasn’t originally in the script, it just became inserted just before the start of shooting.
[Quentin Tarantino] has [den LSD-Trip] only conceived a few weeks before filming began. The script was already set, but then he said, ‘You’re going to take LSD during this scene.’ I said, ‘Great!’ That gives you so many more options. The stereotypes of an LSD trip; that’s always funny. Everyone understands that.
