Biorhythm: can you calculate your due date?

Biorhythm can you calculate your due date

The biorhythm theory would make it possible to precisely determine the date of her delivery. How it works ? Can we predict the baby’s gender? Is it reliable? We take stock of this “pseudo-science”.

When you are pregnant, the pregnancy is confirmed, we want to know as soon as possible the date of her birth. For this, the gynecologist or midwife calculates the estimated date of delivery (DPA), based on the first day of the last menstrual period and serving as a pregnancy record. This is the most commonly used method, but there are also others, such as what is called the “biorhythm”. A technique, invented by doctors Wilhelm Fliess and Hermann Swoboda, which would allowaccurately estimate the due date, unlike the DPA which is approximate.

What is the biorhythm theory?

According to biorhythms theorypopularized in the 70s, our body is governed by three periodic cycles of different duration: the physical cycle lasting 23 days, the emotional cycle lasting 28 days and finally the intellectual cycle lasting 33 days. These three rhythms begin on the day of our birth and biorhythm calculation allows you to obtain three sinusoidal curves that highlight three phases: a positive phase, a negative phase and an intermediate phase, such as a transition. This theory of biological rhythm could therefore determine the periods when we are the most enduring or, on the contrary, the phases during which we have a drop in speed, and so determine the exact date of delivery when you are pregnant.

On the different tools that exist on the Internet, the biorhythm calculation, which is done by entering your date of birth, generates three curves that intersect around a center line (line 0). These movements give a reading on the days considered positive and conducive to good decisions and the days considered critical, which are to be avoided. According to the theory, if the curves are above the midline and approaching +100 this would indicate that you are on top of your game and receptive to trying new things. Conversely, if the curves are below the middle line, around -100, it would mean that you are less fit, tired and that your state of mind is “bad”.

Deciphering your biorhythm curve can give indications on the physical, intellectual or emotional form of a pregnant woman during the weeks and months of pregnancy. According to the theory, in the so-called positive phases, the energy is there. If you feel up to it, you can, for example, give yourself a moment just for you, to go out, take a gourmet break, do some shopping for the future baby, etc. In the negative phases, on the contrary, the theory would like you to rest and ease off on your activities.

How to calculate the biorhythm of your due date?

To calculate the date of delivery according to the biorhythm theory, simply enter your date of birth in the tool, then a year that you want to see evaluated. The due date would be when the physical cycle curve intersects the midline of the plot.

  • According to certain beliefs surrounding biorhythms, if the emotional curve is up and the physical curve is down, it’s a little girl.
  • If the physical curve is up and the emotional curve is down, you are expecting a boy.
  • If the two curves are at the same level at the top or bottom, the sex of the future baby is not yet certain. Again, these results are not to be taken literally, as nothing has been proven.

Another belief, different from the theory of biorhythms, would make it possible to calculate the due date using the moon and its changes.

Is the theory of biorhythms reliable?

The theory of biorhythms is what is called a “pseudo-science” and it is sometimes classified in the category of alternative medicine. Several studies have been conducted, but they lacked rigor and a solid methodological and statistical basis. None has therefore shown the real effectiveness of this method. which should therefore be considered with caution. Nothing prevents the future mother from taking an interest in it, as it is true that we cannot deny the impact of the biological clock, the change of seasons or the menstrual cycle on the mood or the form of a woman.

Thus, intense stress or fear of childbirth can completely influence the date of the baby’s birth. But a website that gives a due date based on this method cannot be taken seriously! In fact, the DPA is a difficult date to predict with accuracy, even when you are a doctor! Caution, therefore.
