Biological health risk warning from WHO that frightens the world

It was announced that a biological health risk started after that occupation in Sudan. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the occupation of a public health laboratory in the capital Khartoum by one of the parties to the ongoing conflict in Sudan poses a great biological health risk.

A weekly press conference was held under the moderation of UN Geneva Office Spokesperson Alessandra Vellucci.

At the meeting, the latest developments regarding the ongoing conflicts in Sudan were discussed.

Farid Aiywari, Head of the Sudan Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), attended the meeting online from Nairobi and made evaluations.

Aiywari, who expressed his deep concern about the conflicts that have been going on for 11 days in Sudan, stated that there is no good development for the cessation of the conflicts.

“The main problem remains scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel. Prices for medicine, transportation and food have also increased substantially,” Aiywari said. said.

Noting that IFRC is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to cooperate with Sudan Red Crescent, Aiywari also said that there are more than 40 thousand volunteers ready to provide humanitarian aid in the field of health and psychosocial support.

“THERE IS A HUGE BIOLOGICAL HEALTH RISK”

WHO Sudan Representative Nima Said Abed stated that 32 percent of the health facilities in the country were completely closed due to the attacks, and some of them were turned into military bases.

Explaining that the central public health laboratory in Khartoum was occupied by one of the parties to the conflict and used as a military base, Abed said, “This is extremely dangerous as there are many samples, including cholera, in the laboratory. There is a great biological health risk associated with the occupation of this place.” said.

Abed also drew attention to the public health risk associated with the conflict and stated that the risk of cholera and malaria is high in Sudan.

Referring to the measles epidemic in the country, Abed warned that many people could die in these epidemics.

Abed said it poses a great risk if one of the warring parties invades the lab, fires the technicians and retains all the biological materials in the lab.

CONFLICT BETWEEN ARMY AND NGO IN SUDAN

Armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary force HDK on the morning of April 15 in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum and other cities.

The disagreement between the army and the HDK regarding the military security reform, which envisages “the full participation of the HDK in the army”, had turned into a hot conflict in the last few months.

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Sovereignty Council Chairman and Army Commander General Abdulfettah al-Burhan had decided to dissolve the HDK, which clashed with the army, and to declare a rebel force against the state, and that they would act on this basis.

WHO, on the other hand, announced that 459 people have lost their lives and 4,071 people have been injured in clashes since April 15 in the capital Khartoum and other cities.
