(Finance) – Satisfaction on the part of CIB-Italian Biogas Consortium for the resolution issued by ARERA on guaranteed minimum prices for biogas plants, a measure strongly requested by the Consortium and long awaited by the sector. The provision on guaranteed minimum prices was approved by Parliament with the Regasifiers Legislative Decree but becomes fully implemented only with the Authority’s resolution. The resolution provides that the GSE recognize the producerswith effect from 28 July 2023, a remuneration to cover operating costs determined monthly on the basis of the indications received from ARERA and the report prepared by RSE.

“ARERA’s decision on guaranteed minimum prices for biogas plants represents a fundamental step in order not to disperse the heritage of biogas plants which have become a strategic infrastructure for the competitiveness and ecological transition of Italian agricultural companies. This provision comes to the end of a long and intense work that we have carried out with the Government, with the parliamentary forces and, over the last few months, with the Authority.”, declares the President of the CIB, Piero Cats.

“This measure is essential to ensure that agricultural biogas plants can continue to operate, contributing to increasing energy security and achieving targets. decarbonization objectives of the country. The Consortium, together with the other associations in the sector, will participate in the consultation that will be launched by ARERA, verifying the cost determination methods envisaged in order to make the proposed model fully responsive to the operating conditions of our companies. We hope that the provision of resources to companies can take place quickly,” concludes Gattoni.

There minimum price rule guaranteed allows all biogas plants that benefit from incentives expiring by 31 December 2027 and that are not able to convert to biomethane to receive the guarantee of a minimum price based on the production costs actually incurred, continuing the production of electricity and renewable thermal. From the publication of the resolution, ARERA opens a consultation to all interested parties which will end on 24 May 2024. The GSE will provide the amount due to each company except for any adjustment that may arise following the observations and proposals received.
