Binge-watching is fun, but don’t forget to get moving! Netflix will help you get back in shape after the holidays with 30 hours of sports classes, in collaboration with Nike. In addition, the service will be available at no additional cost!

Netflix continues to surprise and take a most amazing direction! After taking timid steps into the world of video games – an offer that has so far had little success with subscribers, even if it does contain some pretty nuggets of video games – the streaming platform is embarking on sports coaching. In one blog post published on December 21, 2022, the video-on-demand (SVOD) service announces the posting of sports lessons online from December 30, 2022. Sessions that will be accessible for all users and at no extra cost from their television, their smartphone, tablet and computer. Indeed, Netflix has signed an agreement with Nike to broadcast part of the sports equipment giant’s programs, normally broadcast on the Nike Training Club application with the appropriate subscription. Enough to start the new year with good resolutions and, perhaps for Netflix, justify its new prices, the highest on the streaming market!

Netflix Fitness: hours of video to get back into sport

Netflix announces that 30 hours of video will be accessible over the next few months but will be launched in two installments – more will come during 2023. They will be devoted to yoga, fitness and HIT, with different sessions in depending on the level of the subscriber. To access it, they must use the platform’s search engine and write “Nike” in the field. The first batch of videos that will arrive will include the following programs:

  • Introductory episodes (13 episodes)
  • 2 weeks of muscle building (7 episodes)
  • Yoga (6 episodes)
  • HIT (Cardio) (14 episodes)
  • Welfare (6 episodes)

It’s an intriguing move from Netflix, especially given what has been a turbulent year for SVOD, which is looking to replenish its coffers after experiencing the first loss of subscribers in its history. He obviously intends to achieve this by limiting account sharing and launching a paid subscription, but also by diversifying his activities. By taking the decision to engage in a sports field, he inevitably walks on the flowerbeds of Apple Fitness +, the Apple brand’s subscription sports course service – a service which has recently increased its prices. . Unlike the latter, Netflix’s offer has the advantage of being offered in multilingual versions. Indeed, Apple Fitness+ only offers English subtitled versions, which is not very practical when you play sports and you are not an English speaker. Difficult to read the instructions of the coaches while doing push-ups! However, Apple’s service offers very interesting tracking functions, in particular thanks to the use of an Apple Watch, where Netflix will simply broadcast the videos… for the moment!
