In recent weeks, a whole series of companies and various authorities have warned of fraudsters who, via text messages, emails and phone calls, try to access bank details and subsequently money from unsuspecting people.

For example, Försäkringskassan has flagged fake e-mails, while the Postal Code Lottery has raised the alarm about fraudulent calls and the Swedish Tax Agency and the Financial Supervisory Authority have warned about hoax text messages.

Biltema warns of scam text messages

Now Biltema is doing the same thing. Customers who visit the department store chain’s website are met with a warning.

“Watch out for scam text messages. We never ask for personal information via text message/phone,” the company writes.

When News24 reach Johan Gerdevågmarketing manager at Biltema Sweden, he explains what it is about scam SMS.

– Unfortunately, fraud has increased in Sweden, he says and continues:

– People have been contacted via SMS about orders that the person in question has ordered and refer to calling a number in case of cancellation.

On Biltema’s website you pass on advice to the person or persons who think they have received a scam SMS or scam email where the fraudsters pretend to be Biltema.

“Do not click on links, do not open attachments and do not respond to the email. We recommend that you delete it immediately. Never share information about bank account numbers or credit card numbers. Biltema never requests your account details via email”, can be read on the website.

Anyone who has given out personal or bank details and has been the victim of a complete fraud is asked to contact the police and the bank they are a customer of. This is to draw up a police report and block bank accounts.
