  • Many injured in Russian bombing of Kharkiv

An eleven-year-old boy has been killed and at least 30 people injured when an apartment building was bombed in the large city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services are searching the race masses, says mayor Ihor Terechov.

A nine-storey apartment building has been hit by an aerial bomb – the first to sixth floors are said to be completely destroyed.

At least three people, one of whom is a child, are feared to be trapped in the racial masses and emergency services are working on the scene to free them.

“The enemy again chose evening time for terror, when people are at home with families,” said the region’s governor, Oleh Synehubov, on Telegram.

Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, located about three miles from the Russian border, has been subject to repeated and extensive Russian airstrikes during the full-scale Russian offensive.

Not infrequently, residential areas in the city have been attacked with so-called glide bombs dropped by Russian aircraft. The bombs are equipped with wings which allow them to glide a relatively long distance after being released from Russian territory. They thus become difficult for Ukrainian air defense to detect and defend against.
