Mounted archery was created as a modern sport in Europe in the early 90s. The participants ride at a gallop on their horses and shoot arrows at targets in different directions and at different distances.

In Hok, outside Vaggeryd, there is the country’s largest club with the most active mounted archery in the country – 60 people.

– We are growing slowly but surely, says Julia Ottosson, treasurer of Horseback archers Sydskyttarna.

National competitions in Hok

26 participants took part in the national competitions which were held outside Hok this weekend. Among them the silver medalist from the SM in August, Jens Melander from Nässjö.

– There are probably upwards of 200 practitioners of the sport in Sweden, so it is not that big, but still we have a guy who became world champion, Emil Eriksson, says Jens Melander.
