In our Huawei Matebook 16 review content, we take a closer look at the company’s biggest and most powerful laptop.
Matebook 16 review: Producing ambitious products in different categories, Huawei focuses on users in different segments with its Matebook models. The company came up with a bigger model this time. In our Huawei Matebook 16 review content, the newest and largest model of the Matebook family, we will look at the features, performance and, of course, the user experience of this laptop.
Big and ambitious: Matebook 16 review
I’ve been testing the Matebook 16 for about three weeks. As I mentioned in the review of the Matebook E model, which can be used as a 2si1, before, the experience part is very important for us. That’s why I’ll often focus on the user experience side as well as the general features. But first, let’s take a look at the contents of the box.
Design
First of all, let’s start with the design, as always. When you first start to use the Matebook 16, we see that the usual lines do not change much. Although Huawei focuses on different price segments in the Matebook X, Matebook and D series, it does not break the design line and comes up with a quality metal accent. In this model, which has a simple and elegant appearance, a metal alloy is used and the work has been given more than enough.
As soon as you lift the cover, a chewing gum keyboard with widely spaced titles and speaker grilles positioned immediately on the right and left attract attention. Thanks to the 2W dual speaker system, you can get a powerful surround sound experience. Together with the virtual 7.1 support, it provides more than enough performance in daily use.
Considering the size of the device, a large TouchPad is included. It promises a very comfortable experience while using it. The same goes for the keyboard. It is comfortable to write and the spacing is well balanced. I also need to mention one of my favorite uses in the TouchPad section.
Speaking of the keyboard, the camera is hidden in a key on the keyboard, as the company used in previous models. It offers a quality that you can easily use in meetings with 720p recording. But since it is on the keyboard, it is not very successful in terms of angle. Huawei started to take the camera back to the screen frame on some newly released models, but it did not do this in this model. I can already say that this is one of the rare points of the device that can be criticized for me.
The Touchpad part, which is covered with a glass alloy, is also assigned as the Huawei Share area. In some models, there was a small area on the right, with the use of this part, a 200% larger detection area was obtained. There is a double microphone socket just in front of this part. These microphones with artificial intelligence noise canceling support will do your job well if you are not in an extremely noisy environment.
With the dimensions of 254.9 mm x 351 mm, the thickness of the Matebook 16 is only 17.8 mm. With its 2 kg weight, it does not upset you much as it is portable. When we look at the input and output ports, we see that there are two Type C ports on the left, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack and HDMI port.
On the right, there are two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. In other words, Huawei has offered a wide choice in terms of input and output. Maybe those who are dealing with video and photography would prefer to have an SD card slot in this model.
Of course, let’s not forget the fingerprint power button in the design. Now we can say that this usage has become a habit for us as well. It works extremely fast and you can open Windows 11 in seconds without the need for a password.
Screen
As the name suggests, the Matebook 16 has a 16-inch display. With a bezel as thin as 5.2 mm on three sides, 90% screen-to-body ratio is achieved. The screen already shows its quality and clear image as soon as you open the cover.
Having features such as TÜV Rheinland color accuracy and low blue light, the presence of 2.5K resolution on this screen allows you to get much sharper images on both the media and usage side. This screen, which has a resolution of 2520 x 1680, has a 3:2 ratio and a brightness of 300 nits.
We see that an IPS panel is used as a panel on the screen. I was very satisfied with the screen quality during the time I used it. Huawei is already one of the companies that has proven itself in this regard. The 3:2 screen also manages to add a different atmosphere to the device.
Technicial Specifications
The Matebook 16 is Huawei’s most powerful computer and is designed to deliver high performance. For this, the device includes an octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. Thanks to the PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD with a capacity of 512 GB, both speed and file transfer are very fast.
During the process I used, I did not encounter any stuttering or stuttering problems, both in applications such as Photoshop and in the daily process. I even rendered a 10-minute 3-layer Premiere file during testing. He managed to process this project, which also includes transition effects, in 4 minutes at 1080P resolution 20 bitrate.
You can play some popular esports games on this device, as well as play league of Legends, Valorant, Minecraft or Dota, Overwatch, etc. by playing with their graphical settings. There is no heating problem and the device works very quietly. While the video is processing, it is of course possible to hear the voice of the dual Huawei Shark fans. Again, with these fans, a good workmanship has been achieved with the double cooling pipes.
Huawei Share
One of the features that Huawei has accustomed us to is Huawei Share and multi-screen sharing. I used it frequently with both MatePad Pro 12.6 and Huawei P50 pro during the test period. With the PC Manager application this is very convenient and multi-collaboration is indeed very functional in applications such as Premiere. In addition, controlling the phone via your computer, transferring files and dominating the phone memory as a storage unit also highlights the pleasant use of that eco system.
Battery
The Huawei Matebook 16 model, which has an 84 Wh battery, comes with a very high fast charging support such as 135W. You can fill 60% of this battery in a period of 50 minutes. Offering 12.5 hours of use in total, the product provides 3.5 hours of use in case of emergency with a 15-minute charge. Of course, this only applies to transactions such as documents and roaming. In other words, we do not have a chance to watch 3.5 hours of video in 15 minutes.
Conclusion
As a result, Huawei comes up with computers of different sizes for different segments. In other words, if you are looking for a larger notebook with better performance than the D series, you should also take a look at this computer. If you are looking for a more suitable model, you can take a look at the D series or the Huawei Matebook E model, which we like very much, for 2s1 uses.
