She is Norway’s best skier on the women’s side right now.
But now comes the new shock message from Kristine Stavås Skistad.
– It is a defeat for Norway, says Petter Northug to TV2.
Norwegian cross-country skier Kristine Stavå’s Ski City already broke through in 2019 as a super talent after double JVM gold. But after several tough years, the 25-year-old got his big vindication this year with the best season of his career.
Skistad declines
Stavås Skistad settled with the Swedes in the sprint races and claimed five victories and a total of eleven podium places at the World Cup. The Norwegian and Lynn Svahn developed a strong rivalry during the season as they squared off several times and sent spades to each other.

But now comes a shock message for Norway and what many Norwegians consider a major setback. Kristine Stavås Skistad has decided to once again nobble the Norwegian national team and train on her own next season, reports the newspaper VG.
Northug reacts
Former cross-country skiers Marit Björgen and Maiken Caspersen Falla have both tried to persuade Stavås Skistad but failed. According to Norwegian information, she has turned down the national team because the training program does not suit her, she will instead continue her venture with the private team Team Aker Daehlie.

In just ten months, it will be time for a much-anticipated ski World Cup on Norwegian soil in Trondheim. Even the teammate Astri Öyre Slind has chosen to skip the Norwegian national team and these two defections arouse strong reactions in ski Norway.
– I’m a little disappointed, but at the same time I understand them a little. It is still possible to train together, so I am not terribly disappointed, but it would have been very good to have them in the team, says the national team skater Lotta Udnes Weng to Norwegian TV2.
– It is in a way a defeat for the ski association, but at the same time the biggest wound has been healed by (Johannes Hösflot) Kläbo being back, especially in terms of the market, says the legend Peter Northug in a statement.
