Big star Elias Pettersson’s first words about playing in the World Cup – the answer to the question that could be worth its weight in gold for Tre Kronor

Elias Pettersson completely dominates in the NHL.
But his Vancouver Canucks won’t make the playoffs.
Now the star is speaking out for the first time about a possible WC game.

It hasn’t been the season the Vancouver Canucks and their supporters were hoping for. Before the season, it was talked about as an outsider to be able to go far, with a squad consisting of some of the league’s most talented players. But it was a fiasco and a total free fall.

Huge success

The Canucks have had time to change coaches, get rid of stars, but one thing has at least been a glimmer of light. Elias Pettersson has been a star since his first NHL game, but this winter he has taken the next step. He is now rated as one of the league’s absolute best players, and his stats prove it.

The 24-year-old has, in 68 games played this season, accounted for 33 goals and a whopping 56 assists. He currently stands at 89 points, and everything points to the fact that he will, for the first time, reach the magical 100-point mark. At the time of writing, he is also in a crazy eighth place in the NHL’s scoring, ahead of players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Auston Matthews. But he will not be allowed to show up in the spring playoffs.

The answer about the WC

The Canucks are already completely out of the playoffs, and that leads to the next question. Elias Pettersson’s season will end early, and given the form he is in, he is the best possible name for Sam Hallam’s upcoming World Cup squad. Now EP40 is speaking out for the first time about a possible game.

– Well, I intend to take that after the season. I don’t want to think too much in advance about it, but say nothing right now, says Elias Pettersson to Expressen.

According to the newspaper, he also says it with “a clever smile”, and it’s at least nice to know that he at least doesn’t completely dismiss the idea. Elias Pettersson also has no contract he needs to think about this summer, as his current one also extends over the coming season. After that, Elias Pettersson will become one of the NHL’s best-paid players.
