According to Reuters, a knife attack took place in a shopping mall in Sydney, Australia. Hundreds of people who were in the shopping mall during the attack were evacuated from the area after the attack. After the attack, a police operation was launched in the crowded shopping mall.
Two eyewitnesses who spoke to Reuters reported that gunshots were also heard. One of the witnesses said they saw an injured woman lying on the ground before taking shelter in a jeweler. 6 people died in the incident. While it was stated that there were many injured, one of them was a 9-month-old baby.
TEAMS FLOODED TO THE REGION
In their first statement about the incident, the police said: “A critical incident occurred after a man was shot at Bondi Junction. Just before 4pm (Saturday 13 April 2024), emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction following reports of multiple people being stabbed. “Citizens are asked to stay away from the area.” Local media broadcasting from the region stated that heavily armed police arrived at the scene and announced that people escaped from the shopping mall.
FEMALE POLICE MADE INFECTIOUS
It was announced that a person attacked people with a knife at the Westfield shopping mall in the east of Sydney, and 6 people, including the attacker, died. In his press release about the incident, Deputy Police Chief Anthony Cooke stated that the attacker was shot and neutralized by a female police officer who was nearby and said, “(The female police officer) continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him, and she caught up with the attacker on the fifth floor. (The attacker) turned, they faced each other and he raised his knife. “She (the policewoman) fired her gun and the attacker is now dead,” he said. Stating that the attacker acted alone, the police did not provide information about the reason for the attack.
Some posts on social media showed crowds escaping from the shopping mall, police cars and emergency services rushing to the area.
