Big nerf for killers – Survivors get “infinite” palettes

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Dead by Daylight nerfs two perks. One is essential for killers – the other could give survivors “unlimited power”.

Dead by Daylight’s balance is a pretty nice touch. Most of the time, both killers and survivors get upset about the lack of balancing – which in sum then leads to the assumption that it is quite balanced after all.

In the next patch, however, the developers have a few changes that can scratch it quite a bit. Because killers lose a big advantage of their most powerful perk and survivors get a buff that literally forces killers to always destroy pallets immediately.

Nerf the killers: The best perk gets weaker

Killers have massive debuffs on the Eruption perk. He had turned out to be extremely powerful in the last few months. While “SWF Groups” were able to counter the perk relatively well, those who went against Eruption as a solo survivor could expect frustrating rounds.

Previously, Eruption caused each generator kicked by the killer to be marked. The next time a Survivor is knocked down, all marked Generators will immediately lose 10% progress and start losing further progress. If a survivor is currently working on an affected generator, that survivor will yelp and be incapacitated for 25 seconds, unable to continue repairing or stopping further rollback.

It’s too strong for the developers and it caused too much frustration. With the next patch, Eruption will be revised and will receive the following changes:

  • Eruption reduces current progress by 10% instead of all progress when triggered. If the Generator is at 60%, Eruption would reset it to 54% (instead of 50%).
  • Survivors are no longer disabled when triggered. Instead, they scream out and reveal their aura to the killer for 10 seconds.
  • All in all, the perk gives the killer a little more information about the whereabouts of the survivors, but this is usually negated because you still have to hook the survivor who has just been knocked down and the 10 seconds until then have elapsed anyway. The perk loses its power to prolong the game and temporarily prevent survivors from repairing.

Infinite Palettes – If the killer cooperates

Instead, survivors get a massive buff that affects a previously very niche perk. This is about “Any Means Necessary”. This perk allows survivors to right a fallen pallet to collapse it again if needed.

The perk was only partially useful in the past. For one thing, it had a rather high cooldown of 60 seconds, for another, killers often chose to destroy a palette immediately, rendering the perk useless.

With the next patch, the perk will completely lose its cooldown. That still doesn’t make it useful if the killer immediately destroys all pallets. However, it should now be more useful in many scenarios.

Since the killer has to sacrifice time to destroy a palette, many killers choose to wait until the end of the hunt to do so. If another player is being chased, the person with Any Means Necessary can simply walk across the map and instantly right any fallen pallets.

What do you think of these two changes? Good, sensible and sane for the state of the game? Or unfair or even useless?
