She is one of our most popular skiing heroes.
Today we celebrate Stina Nilsson on her 31st birthday.
And wish her the best of luck in her new sporting venture.
Stina Nilsson from Malung broke through as a blue-yellow big talent at a young age. Already as a 19-year-old, she had won three JVM gold medals in cross-country skiing and that would be the start of a very impressive skiing career.
Nilsson’s career
After the ski WC in Falun in 2015, she got the nickname “Silver-Stina” after three consecutive WC silver medals in sprint, sprint relay and long relay. But then the gold medals would come rolling in for the Swede, who became one of the world’s very best sprinters.

Nilsson won Olympic gold in 2018, double WC gold in 2019 and collected a total of twelve international championship medals. Then she came with the shock news of changing sports to biathlon as a 27-year-old.
Stina’s new picture
There were four seasons in the new sport and at best an EC bronze and three SM golds. But mostly Stina had to struggle hard in the lower regions of the results lists at the World Cup and never achieved the success she hoped for.

Now she has decided to change sports again and is returning to cross-country skiing again. But this time it will be with a focus on long runs and Ski Classics for the newly 31-year-old.
