Big change for parking in Stockholm – during September

Big change for parking in Stockholm during September

In recent years, it has become increasingly common to pay for parking with the mobile phone instead of with a parking machine.

Stockholm city’s official parking service is called Betala P, and is used to pay for parking on the city’s streets and in its parking garages.

The Betala P app has endured a lot of criticism over the years, and now it is to be phased out. Within a few weeks it will no longer work.

Parking in Stockholm is getting easier

Criticism of pay P has, among other things, revolved around a complicated interface, bugs and malfunctions.

The Traffic Committee in the City of Stockholm finally decided in December 2023 that Betala P would be discontinued. Instead, it will be replaced by an authorization system for stand-alone paid services for parking.

Going forward, those who want to pay for parking in Stockholm are referred to four different apps.

The four apps that replace Pay P are EasyPark, ePARK, Mobill and Parkster.

The apps can be used as an alternative to Pay P since September 17.

The Pay P service will stop working on September 30, 2024.

Even before September 17, it was possible to use payment services other than Pay P, for example EasyPark, to pay for parking on Stockholm’s streets.

In this case, however, you have had to pay a service fee to EasyPark, and the concern has been that this arrangement would apply even after the closure of Betala P.

However, this will not be the case, but you will be able to use the four apps that replace Pay P without having to pay extra fees.

– The new system will make it possible for us to ensure that there are several services adapted to the needs of the city and those who park without extra fees, for example when needs change or new technology is introduced, says Josefine Mittermaierunit manager for law and parking at the traffic office in the city of Stockholm, in one press release.

However, the traffic office notes that there may be services within the four apps that incur a fee.
