Big car brand has problems with the brakes thousands

It is about the German car brand BMW, which has issued a recall for a large part of a large part of the model range.

In some places, deliveries of certain model series have also been stopped.

This after a problem has been discovered with the brakes, BMW Blog reports.

Problems with the brakes

BMW states to Nyheter24 that it is about the fact that an internal quality control has discovered that a signal error can lead to the brake system being switched to a so-called “safe mode”.

BMW states that the fault does not mean that the brakes fail completely, but still meet the requirements for brake performance.

According to BimmerToday, however, the problem can lead to having to press harder on the brake pedal, as well as the anti-lock brakes and the anti-skid system being disabled.

If the problem occurs, the driver is informed of this with a warning to drive carefully on the instrument display.

BMW has a solution

BMW has developed a software that is supposed to detect if a problem is emerging in the braking system before its function has time to be affected.

This means that the customer can visit a workshop for inspection and repair before the “safe mode” is activated.

The software is already on many cars that are at risk of suffering from the brake problems, but many cars still lack the system and have to be retrofitted with it.

This update can either be done wirelessly or at a BMW workshop.

100,000 customers are affected

The news of the sales halt was initially reported by CarExpert in Australia, where around 30,000 BMW cars are waiting to be delivered to their customers. How many cars are covered globally is currently unclear.

However, BMW has confirmed that as many as 175,000 cars are affected in Germany alone, reports BimmerToday. The problem also affects customers in the United States, where BMW has recalled around 278,000 cars.

In Sweden, around 10,000 cars are affected, BMW confirms to Nyheter24. This includes both cars that have already been delivered to the customer, as well as cars that have not yet been delivered.

BMW has begun work on notifying customers who are affected.
