Filip and Henrik Ingebrigtsen will work in the Norwegian Athletics Federation’s coaching team in the future.
Norwegian 1,500m European champion Filip Ingebrigtsen will focus more and more closely on his younger brother, who has reached two Olympic victories and two world championships by Jakob Ingebrigtsen for coaching. Filip continues his career outside the national team and at the same time takes responsibility for Jakob’s coaching.
– I still strive for value competitions, but at the same time I am a realist. I’ve struggled with injuries and haven’t achieved results that would qualify me for a place in the national team. That’s why it’s natural that I devote more time to helping Jakob, Filip Ingebrigtsen announced on Monday.
Ingebrigtsen’s brothers rose to the top of their father as middle distance runners by Gjert Ingebrigtsen in training, but the runner brothers Jakob, Filip and Henrik Ingebrigtsen broke up last year with their father, whom they have accused of violence.
Experience at the top level
In the future, Filip will also work in the Norwegian Athletics Federation as an assistant coach for long and middle distance runners. The association’s top sports manager Erlend Slokvik was happy with the solution.
– We have had good cooperation with Ingebrigtsen for a long time, and especially last season. I believe that in the future we all have a desire to develop our system so that we can make even better use of the experience we have gained from the top of running sports, Slokvik comments on the future prospects.
Filip emphasizes quality in training.
– We have a long tradition of training camps where young runners get an idea of the level of demands at the top of the world. We want to pass on this experience-based know-how so that Norway remains a leading country on long and medium distances, Filip Ingebrigtsen continued about the cooperation.
According to information from the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK, Henrik Ingebrigtsen will also work for the Norwegian national athletics team in the future. Henrik won the 1,500m European Championship in 2012 in Helsinki and Filip in 2016 in Amsterdam. Jakob achieved an Olympic victory in 1,500 meters in 2021 and in 5,000 meters last summer.
