Actor and comedian Bob Newhart, known in France for having played in “The Big Bang Theory”, has died at the age of 94.
Bob Newhart, American actor and comedian, died on Thursday, July 18 in Los Angeles. According to his agent, he died following a series of short illnesses at the age of 94. Less well-known in France, Bob Newhart became particularly well-known in the 1970s and 1980s thanks to two television series: The Bob Newhart Show And Newhart. In recent years, we have been able to see him in the series The Big Bang Theory And Desperate Housewives.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois on September 5, 1929, he earned a business degree before doing his military service. He then began studying law, before taking on odd jobs. It was there that he made his acting debut with a troupe in Oak Park. He began a career as a comedian in the 1950s and acquired international fame ten years later.
It was then in the 1970s that he exploded thanks to two comedy series that bear his name, mentioned above. In The Bob Newhart Showhe plays a Chicago psychologist, in Newhartthat of a New England innkeeper. From 1985 to 1987, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for best actor in a comedy. He has also been nominated numerous times for other appearances, in EMERGENCIES in 2003 and in The Curse of the Judas Chalice in 2008. He was also previously seen in Desperate Houseviesas Morty Flickman, Susan’s stepfather, from 2004 to 2005. However, it is thanks to The Big Bang Theory that he won his first Emmy in 2013, and then in 2014: he was awarded as a “guest star” for his role as Professor Proton. He had also appeared in the prequel Young Sheldonbroadcast in 2017.
Less present in the cinema, we could however hear him as the voice of Bernard in the Disney cartoon The Adventures of Bernard and Bianca and its sequel. He also starred in Elfa 2003 film by Jon Favreau, or How to kill your boss in 2011.
