US President Joe Biden says Hezbollah leader Nasrallah’s death can be seen as “a step towards justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis and Lebanese”.
He also repeats his message that he “fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi rebels and other Iranian-backed terrorist groups”.

He is believed to have been one of the targets of Israel’s bombardment on Friday night – when Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed – but is said to have survived.
As a cousin of the Shia militia of some iconic leaders, Hashem Safieddine is one of the most likely successors to the leadership post.
According to some observers, Nasrallah has given his cousin tailor-made positions precisely with the intention that Safieddine will one day be able to take over the organization.
According to the New York Times three sources within the terror-labeled movement, Safieddine’s new position as Secretary General of Hezbollah may be announced shortly.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref says the killing of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah will lead to Israel’s “annihilation.” This is reported by the Iranian news agency Isna, according to The Guardian.
“We warn the leaders of the occupying regime that the unjust bloodshed… especially by Hezbollah’s leader, the martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, will lead to their annihilation,” the vice president is reported to have said, according to the news agency.
The IDF has carried out a new airstrike against Dahieh in southern Beirut.
It is the same area that was attacked yesterday, and where Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed.
Explosions have been heard in central Israel, reports Reuters.
The firecrackers came shortly after the air raid sirens began to wail. According to the IDF, a rocket was fired from Yemen, but was shot down.
The air traffic alert has also sounded in Tel Aviv.
