Joe Biden is canceling his trip to Angola and Germany because he doesn’t want to leave the US when Hurricane Milton moves in. Almost the entire west coast of Florida is covered by the warning.
Milton was downgraded from a Category 5 hurricane to a Category 4 hurricane Tuesday night, local time. The hurricane is then upgraded back to a Category 5 hurricane.
Despite that, authorities warn that the hurricane can cause floods and thus become life-threatening.
“A matter of life and death”
President Joe Biden says it could be the worst to hit Florida in 100 years, and he’s urging residents to take it seriously:
– If you have been ordered to evacuate, you must evacuate now, now, now. You should have already done that. It is a matter of life and death and it is not an exaggeration, he says during a press conference in the White House.
“Putting sandbags for the doors”
Many have already evacuated, others are preparing to evacuate and some are trying to make sure they are prepared if hit by Milton:
– We put sandbags in front of all the doors. We try to make sure nothing gets into the house, says David Coutts, who lives in Florida.
– We feel quite safe. We have prepared and have water, food and gas, says Tommy Hall, who also lives in Florida.
