US President Joe Biden has been questioned as part of the investigation into the possible mishandling of classified documents, which were found in both his home and a former office.

The 80-year-old Democrat answered the questions while dealing with the US response to the Hamas attack on Israel.

In January of this year, the US Attorney General appointed a special counsel in charge of the secret documents case.

“The president has been interviewed as part of the investigation led by special counsel Robert Hur. The voluntary interview was conducted over two days, Monday and Sunday,” White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement.

The first classified documents were found last November at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, a think tank linked to the University of Pennsylvania where Biden was previously an honorary professor.

In January, additional documents were then found at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as some handwritten notes that were also seized. The documents were from both Biden’s time as a senator and as vice president, while the handwritten notes were from his time as vice president.

In the past, classified documents have also been found in former President Donald Trump’s residence and in the residence of former US Vice President Mike Pence.
