US President Joe Biden has chosen a new head of the US Navy. The new head will be Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to lead one of the country’s six defense branches and to be part of the country’s highest military council, the joint chiefs of staff.

The choice means that Biden chooses out Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s recommendation, Admiral Samuel Paparo. However, Franchetti is internally considered to be the most highly regarded candidate, AP reports.

The 59-year-old Lisa Franchetti is today the fleet’s deputy chief.
