The five -day race was disturbed by cars and traffic problems during stage two and three while persistent rain and cold pulled down the atmosphere on stage four.
Today on the fifth day, however, the sun was shining when the race had a finish on a hill on the outskirts of the city of Ales founded in the 9th century in southern France.
It was such a chaos last Friday that many wondered how it would be with the race – if it could be implemented at all and if it would be a winner. Kevin Vauquelin could now sign up as a winner.
“Had some revenge to take”
Kevin Vauquelin won yesterday’s mountain stage and was also the fastest at today’s ten km individual pace also with a tough finish up.
– I had a little revenge to take here at Etoile de Bessèges, after a special week and a very strenuous day yesterday, pOwns 23-year-old Vauquelin to his stable after the win.
On the way down the mountain, the same road as he cycled up, he made highfives with children who lined the way.
Vauquelin took the chance when the big stable jumped off because they felt that security could not be maintained in connection with stage three. A major discussion about safety in cycling in general has arisen.
