Biathlon: Ella Halvarsson sprinted for the podium – but had to give in: “Proud of what I do”

– I haven’t realized that I’m fourth, I’m riding with (Sophie) Chaveau every lap and hanging on and not dying. It’s so much fun and I’m very proud of what I do, says Halvarsson.

At the last shoot, Halvarsson shot full and advanced from ninth place in the third shoot to go out in third.

She went out with Franziska Preuss who won yesterday’s sprint in the fight for third place and also had her sights set on Vanessa Voigt in second place.

Quite quickly on the sprint lap she pulled past the German who came back and they had a duel towards the goal and Halvarsson was finally 4.2 seconds off the podium.

“Wanted to go after Prussia”

– I drove everything I could. I thought of going after Preuss and then chased Voigt. Preuss and also Voigt had been difficult to catch, says Ella Halvarsson to SVT. She threw up after the race.

Perhaps it was a tactical mistake to try to challenge Prussia so early.

– I think she could have played her cards differently, but she impresses, says expert Björn Ferry about Halvarsson and thinks she should have waited.

– She herself was a little worried that the podium in Kontiolax was lucky. Here we see it’s really not luck – she has gotten so much better, says expert Mona Brorsson about Halvarsson, who is sixth in the World Cup after today’s competition.

Lou Jeanmonnot took over the lead at the third shootout after leading German Franziska Preuss shot two bogeys. The French made all 20 of her shots and won the competition clear ahead of the Germans Vanessa Voigt and Preuss.
