Biathlon: Björn Ferry: “I see that as unlikely”

Last season was a weaker Swedish season in terms of success than the year before. Weak Swedish shooting was a big reason for that.

– Clearly that is where the weakness is, in terms of riding, Sweden stands strong above all if you look at the top names, the Öberg sisters, Ponsiluoma and Samuelsson. But if you want to compete with the best Norwegians, French sisters and so on, you need to hit more shots, says Björn Ferry.

The shooter more prioritized this year

As a measure, the national team management prioritizes shooting up more now. That means more time with the weapon and more dry shooting sessions. Actions that Björn Ferry welcomes.

– It is important that the leaders take this seriously and show that this is now important, and hopefully you have gotten everyone involved so that they also prioritize this.

– It is reasonable that if someone does this really well, they can increase their shooting percentage by five percent in the whole year.

What would it mean if our best skaters can raise a few percent this winter?

– If any of these four top skaters (the Öberg sisters, Ponsiluoma, Samuelsson) can increase their shooting percentage by five percent, it will make for a hugely good season, but I see it as unlikely that all of them would do that, says Björn Ferry.
