Bianca Salming lost her father and great role model.
Today, on Börje Salming’s birthday, she pays tribute to her father in the finest way.
It was on November 24, 2022 that one of Swedish sports’ biggest icons fell asleep. Börje Salming turned 71 years old and all of Sweden was united in mourning a much-loved and appreciated hockey legend.
Salming’s grief
The fight against the nerve disease ALS became far too tough and during the last time the Salming family joined together to give Börje all the love and help that was needed. Together they went to Toronto to receive the Maple Leafs fans’ huge tributes and the whole family was on stage when Börje was celebrated during the “Hockey Gala of the Ages” in the Avicii arena.

The daughter Bianca Salming was by his father’s side right to the end and has opened up in several interviews about the tough time together with his great role model in life. The salvation during the great sadness was her training, the sports career as a track and field athlete became her way of dealing with the difficult emotions.

Bianca’s Tribute
The 24-year-old is one of Sweden’s leading heptathletes right now and has won 13 SM gold medals during his short career so far. At the beginning of the year, she also won her very first championship after her father’s death in the form of the indoor EC.

It was of course extremely emotional as Börje Salming supported her wholeheartedly and was usually there to cheer on her daughter’s competitions. Today is another such emotional day as it is the first birthday after my father’s passing.

Börje Salming would have turned 72 on Monday and daughter Bianca pays tribute to her father in a beautiful way on social media.
