A typical pharmaceutical product of our summers that Americans envy us: Biafine. This “multifunctional” product could be applied as a day cream according to American beautystas.
In France, biafine is a must in our pharmacies that we use for burns and sunburn. In the United States, it makes the tiktokeuses dream. On the Chinese social network, Americans praise the merits of this product as a day cream and recommend using it daily.
The #biafine hashtag has 5 million views on the platform. The influencers do not hesitate to buy a stock of the famous white and green tube, which they present as a miracle product.
Passing through Paris, the influencer with 1.4 million subscribers on TikTok, @glowwithava recently filmed herself applying a thick layer of this “miracle” cream on her face. The video has been widely commented on by the French who are offended by its use, as @audathice who, shocked, writes: “Biafine is for burns and sunburn… it’s greasy, it sticks, it’s thick”.
A trend not necessarily to follow
American tiktokers film themselves leaving a pharmacy in France, their tubes in their hands or applying Biafine to their faces. They specify that it is a product “multifunction”. Biafine would therefore serve to moisturize dry skin and prevent skin dehydration, of course. They also specify that it is used for burns and skin wounds.
In France, this trend is even considered dangerous. Biafine is not recommended for daily use. Some lend it photosensitive qualities, so it would be dangerous to expose your skin to the sun after its application. In addition, it contains parabens suspected of being carcinogenic and triethanolamine, an allergen known to have a degreasing effect on the skin and cause redness and cracking with prolonged use. Some dermatologists have also repeated that this cream is not a cosmetic, but a medicine, intended for temporary use. A trend that is best avoided.
