According to a Scandinavian study, we do not have the same propensity to go and see outside the couple. However, a certain personality trait would be more inclined to infidelity than others. Find out which one!
Are some people unfaithful by nature? A new study seems to support this and attributes this “inclination” to a particular character trait: emophilia (without the “h”).
What is emophlia?
Emophilia, also called emotional promiscuity, is the tendency to fall in love often in one’s daily life. These are people who think they have found the woman/man of their life, at each meeting and in a very short time, for example. But be careful, this is not just a figure of speech.
“It is not a fleeting feeling that may disappear, but a strong desire accompanied by a hyper-fixation on love”psychologist Mark Travers says in the magazine Forbes. For Suzanne Degges-White, a therapist who wrote on the subject in Psychology Today:
“Emophilia arises from the deep desire to be ‘in love’ and to enjoy all the strong sensations that come from this feeling of intense and reciprocal romantic and sexual attraction.”.
In short, the person is more in love with love than with the person opposite.
A problematic artichoke heart for the person himself
Falling in love frequently is not so light, however. Because behind this emophilia hides a permanent desire to find excitement, the pleasure of meeting and of the nascent feeling. Results? These people are quite capable of being “in love” with several people at the same time.
The other risk is that by not being very particular about the people targeted, and ignoring the warning signs to the detriment of their feelings, the person with haemophilia exposes themselves to toxic relationships, as confirmed by a study published in 2021. Blinded by their love, they also take time to realize the trap.
The emophile person is more likely to cheat on you
Finally, this latest Scandinavian study conducted on 2,500 people established a concrete link between emophilia and infidelity. They were questioned about their relationships, the number of these and their infidelities. The researchers then examined their results using theEmotional Promiscuity Scalea popular measure of emophilia. And the most unfaithful were also those who scored high on this test.
“The tendency to fall in love easily and often could lead the individual to engage in new romantic relationships more frequently. Therefore, this tendency may explain the association of emophilia with infidelity, as it may lead the individual to develop romantic feelings toward someone who is not in their relationship.”they concluded.
