Get ready to have the well-known synthesizer theme from Beverly Hills Cop stuck in your head again: Eddie Murphy puts on the costume of Officer Folley for the fourth time. Between the third opus and this one: 30 years have passed. So should we dive back into the previous films dating from 1984, 1987 and 1994 to not be too lost with this new scenario? Not at all! This fourth film develops a new plot that takes into account the time that has passed. Folley will work with his daughter and a new high-tension mission awaits him.
The cast obviously includes Eddie Murphy in the same role as Axel Foley. The hero’s daughter is played by Taylour Paige (Zola, High School Musical 3) and his ex by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises). A nod to the previous films from 1984, 1987 and 1994, however, three of his former colleagues are back in action as well: Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood, Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Friedman and John Ashton, aka John Taggart. This sequel took a long time to make, although it was first mentioned right after the third film in 1994. A series produced by CBS was aborted before Paramount decided to relaunch the franchise in theaters, then sold the distribution rights to Netflix.
