Between LFI and EELV big gap in changes of direction

Europe Ecology-The Greens and La France insoumise chose their new respective directions this weekend. But if the new boss of environmentalists Marine Tondelier has managed to unite around her, Manuel Bompard, the new strongman of the Insoumis, has chosen to dismiss the most critical voices.

The ax fell on Saturday. Neither François Ruffin, nor Clémentine Autain or even the old grognards Alexis Corbière and Eric Coquerel are part of the coordination of the spaces of La France insoumise, the heart of the reactor of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s movement. The first two, who no longer hide their ambitions for the 2027 presidential election, are publicly moved by it, denouncing on the side of François Ruffin a ” narrowing “from LFI, and on the Clémentine Autain side” a lack of internal democracy “.

Critics immediately swept away by Jean-Luc Mélenchon himself. In a very salty note from his personal blog, the leader of LFI denounced without naming them the two deputies who, he recalls, ” have never been members ” party. As for the other dissatisfied people, he settles their account by relegating them to the rank of ” Fiendish Anonymous “.

It’s a way to put the lid on the pot of internal protest “, judge a former rebel, “ and this lid is Manuel Bompard who does not have the stature to claim to be more than the nice organizer of the party “.

Contrast with environmentalists

For the first time in a very long time at Europe Écologie Les Verts, it is on the contrary a direction bringing together all the currents or almost which has been designated. The result of long negotiations carried out by Marine Tondelier and his relatives. And it was not won in advance to bring together in a majority the dyed-in-the-wool social ecological current of Yannick Jadot and the eco-feminist radicalism of Sandrine Rousseau. ” We now have a clear line “, Welcomes an environmentalist executive, who remains lucid about the challenges of bringing together leaders who sometimes devote a tenacious hatred to each other. ” It’s hyper democracy, he continuesbut I prefer this to LFI locking ».

In her first speech as patron saint of ecologists, Marine Tondelier highlighted the need to broaden EELV’s electoral base, first of all by having a good European election in 2024, where the party will have an independent list, then to municipal elections of 2026. Because for the moment, no one is emerging among ecologists for the next presidential election, Yannick Jadot being weakened by his failure this year and Sandrine Rousseau being far too divisive.

On the side of La France insoumise, it is quite the opposite. The potential candidates for 2027 are numerous and the intermediate elections are always viewed with a little distance. The tensions are directly linked to this very nature of the party. Still according to a former rebel, ” Household chores which was done this weekend within LFI is not a coincidence; it’s because” Operation Mélenchon 2027 has already been launched “. And it is of course out of the question for the three-time presidential candidate to accept any internal competition.

Prejudicial bickering for the Nupes

The criticisms that touched LFI this weekend were immediately showered by party leaders. Because for the faithful of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, having a disciplined party is essential while the ecologists, but also the socialists, even the communists, begin to display their ambitions for the future.

But this way of working also risks strengthening the skeptics of Nupes. For the former boss of environmentalists David Cormand, ” the internal force at LFI proves that “ pluralism will find it difficult to exist within the Nupes “. “ They don’t want no democracy, no debates on the political linehe continues, this is also why they had tried to impose a single group on the left within the National Assembly, to control us ».

But if the ecologists emerge strengthened from this political sequence, the former Insoumis executive questioned above warns: “ Jean-Luc Mélenchon has already proven that he is capable of resisting anything and he knows that time is often on his side ».
