Faced with this problem, many people often turn to classic solutions such as white vinegar, known for its cleaning properties. However, there is another everyday product, even more effective, that can work wonders. You definitely have it at home: toothpaste.
Toothpaste, which you use every day to make your teeth shine, has mild abrasive properties that can also be effective for other types of cleaning. Its whitening action, usually intended to preserve the shine of your smile, can also revive the whiteness of a PVC, lacquered wood or white painted door, which has lost its shine over time.
The secret to the effectiveness of toothpaste lies in its composition. Most toothpastes contain baking soda, a mild abrasive agent, as well as whitening agents and surfactants. This cocktail not only helps remove dirt residues accumulated on the surface, but also restores shine. Unlike overly abrasive products, toothpaste does not damage delicate materials like lacquered wood or PVC, making it ideal for gentle but effective cleaning.
The application is very simple and does not require any special equipment. Here’s how to do it:
- Choose the right toothpaste: choose a white toothpaste, preferably without gel or colored particles, which could stain your surface. A classic toothpaste, even a cheap one, does the job perfectly.
- Take a small amount of toothpaste and apply it directly to the yellowed areas of the door. You can use a soft cloth or damp sponge to spread the product evenly. Use circular motions, gently rubbing the surface.
- Leave on for 15 minutes.
- Take a clean, damp cloth to wipe off the toothpaste. Make sure to remove all residue, as this can leave a film if not rinsed properly.
- Finally, wipe the door with a dry cloth to remove any traces of moisture and restore shine to the surface.
Depending on the degree of yellowing, one application is not enough. Repeat the processes until the desired effect occurs. On painted doors, make sure the paint does not come off. Test the effect on an inconspicuous area.
