As I’m sure everyone knows, our solar system has 8 planets, but Bethesda disagrees in Starfield, listing a celestial body that isn’t a planet at all.
My father explains our nine planets to me every Sunday – yes, you heard me right, “our nine planets”. That was the motto for the planets in our solar system until 2006 and that’s how it will be again in the year 2330.
This is the year Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield is set. Anything can happen between now and 2330. For example, it is possible that a “planet” that is still classified as a dwarf planet in 2023 will again be considered a full-fledged planet in the distant future.
Bethesda makes Pluto a planet
What “planet” are you talking about? Bethesda classified Pluto as a planet, in a way flouting astronomers’ classification. In 2006, the IAU (International Astronomical Union) determined that Pluto is a so-called dwarf planet. Other objects of a similar size had previously been discovered in the Kuiper Belt, which is why the IAU created the class.
In June 2023, our solar system was shown in a short sequence in a large Starfield showcase. In addition to our eight planets, the dwarf planet Pluto was also shown. This was also discovered by a user on Twitter:
However, other dwarf planets such as Ceres and Eris are missing from the figure, from which it can be concluded that Pluto in Starfield is accordingly classified as a normal planet and can probably be explored.
In addition to Pluto and the rest of our solar system, there will be over 1,000 planets for you to visit when Starfield is released.
Fans miss more dwarf planets
What do Starfield fans say about this? There are numerous fans of the role-playing game on Reddit and Twitter who commented on the upgrade of Pluto. Some are happy, others miss more dwarf planets they would like to see in Starfield:
The image of our solar system also shows the earth, but in a more brownish hue. You can read more about it here:
