— It feels great that we have cracked the code for chickpeas, says Håkan Johnsson, CEO of Kalmar Öland garden products, to The barometer.
The trick has been to find the right seed. For six years, the company has tested different types of chickpeas in collaboration with Hushållningsällskapet, among others. The best yield was given by a variety from Greece.
The chickpea farms will be located on Öland and Gotland, in Skåne and Östergötland. It is the first time that chickpeas are grown on such a large scale in Sweden.
“Now it will be exciting to see if it will be as good as we think,” says Håkan Johnsson to the newspaper.
