Bestiality prevails over humans – LExpress

Bestiality

Lionel Cohn, Bnei Brak (Israel)

Hamas’ attack did not in any way target settlements in the West Bank territories, but rather quiet villages that already existed before the founding of the state. In addition, it was the civilian populations who were attacked. Finally, the terrorists did not distinguish between their victims: women, children, old people. These scenes were real a few days ago! It is not our responsibility to judge beings devoid of the slightest spiritual spark. Let us not seek to conclude, if not to think, that bestiality unfortunately prevails over humans. (“A country on a war footing” L’Express, October 26.)

Barbarism permitted and justified

Louise Rivière, Toulouse (Haute-Garonne)

After the unspeakable anti-Semitic pogrom that has just taken place, seeing all these hateful parades supporting the barbarians of Hamas is chilling. But why should we be surprised? “Anti-Zionism is an incredible godsend because it gives us permission, and even the right, and even the duty to be anti-Semitic in the name of democracy! Anti-Zionism is justified anti-Semitism, finally made available to all “, wrote Vladimir Jankélévitch. As he had anticipated, Nazism in the 1930s returned to the forefront by adorning itself with the mask of virtue and justice. (“A country on a war footing” L’Express, October 26.)

Blue White Red-brown

Joseph Kalfon, Bordeaux (Gironde)

The anti-Semitic pogrom committed by Hamas takes us back to the horror of Nazism in the 1930s and 1940s. And the masks have definitely fallen. To those who still doubt it, the appointment of Danièle Obono to the post of “titular judge at the Court of Justice of the Republic” demonstrates that the French Republic is no longer anything but a ghost. As a reminder, inciting racial and anti-Semitic hatred as well as advocating terrorism constitute crimes. However, the repeated comments of the LFI MP fully correspond to this scenario. Imagine Dieudonné or Soral appointed full judges to the Court of Justice of the Republic!… Well, here we are. (“LFI and the crimes of Hamas: an indelible fault” L’Express, October 26.)

70 years ! Well done !

Claude Girault, Dana Point (United States)

It was thanks to L’Express that, after my expatriation to California in 1965, I was able to maintain very strong links with France. The high quality of your articles, combined with the accuracy of your analyses, makes your weekly essential. Reading it is essential if you really want to be informed about the things of this world. (“Our 70th anniversary number. 1953-2023“, L’Express of October 19.)

A very nice number, but…

Congratulations to your entire team for this very beautiful 70th anniversary issue (almost my age): beautiful notebook, beautiful layout, beautiful photos… These retrospectives are fascinating; they clearly show the evolution of the newspaper, its doubts and its crises, with lucid introspection, and the evolution of society. It is useful to do these flashbacks, when the news plunges us into the immediate. Only one downside: the magazine opens with 10 pages of luxury advertising. I know that a newspaper must live, but this choice makes me uncomfortable – and I wanted to tell you that as a loyal reader. (“Our 70th anniversary number. 1953-2023“, L’Express of October 19.)

The effects of immigration

Gérald Bronner states that “immigration has a very small impact on employment and wages”. Actually, it depends on the domain. In construction and catering, workers regularly request regularization. We can therefore assume that these people, in an illegal situation, have a salary lower than the legal minimum, that their employer does not pay social security contributions and that they themselves escape income tax. Consequently, there are fewer social receipts in the state coffers, therefore an impact on social benefits, and ultimately on consumption and employment. (“Migratory fear has changed narrative“, L’Express of September 28.)
