July has proven to be a surprisingly solid month for the gaming industry, even if it doesn’t look like it on paper. During the month, many different genres of games managed to attract attention. Here are the most popular games of this month…

Xenoblade Chronicles 3
One of the best of the month was the sequel to the series. Nintendo and Monolith Soft released Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on July 28, and it serves as the culmination of what the series has built on since the release of the first Xenoblade Chronicles title. While the combat system is quite complex, with its MMO-like build and character combination, its striking storyline and faithfulness to the series’ formula are pleasing JRPG fans who are now getting a third Xenoblade Chronicles game on Nintendo Switch.
Stray
One of the other biggest titles this month is Stray, an indie game from BlueTwelve Studio and publisher Annapurna Interactive about a cat exploring a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk city. For cat owners, Stray is a dream come true as it gamifies all the known strange behaviors of cute cats. Stray is in high demand as a good-looking game with an impressive story that only lasts five hours.
Live A Live
The other big JRPG to be released in July was Live A Live. This Square Enix exclusive Nintendo Switch was originally a version of the Super Famicom RPG that was never made out of state. It’s rare for games in this state to even get a western version, let alone a remake. That’s why Live a Live is such a remarkable game. As a matter of fact, the game manages to stand out even more thanks to HD-2D and its unique structure where players go through several separate adventures before finally coming together.
As Dusk Falls
As Dusk Falls is perfect for those who enjoy adventurous adventure games like Life is Strange: True Colors. Divided into two books, each with three parts, As Dusk Falls tells the story of a hostage situation at a hotel in Arizona and its effects on the people there. The game comes in a comic book-like format with minimal movement, so choices are really the crux of the interactive experience here. Its unique presentation is not for everyone, but if its unusual style impresses you, you will really enjoy the game.
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series
The Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a remaster of the two main console games in a somewhat obscure Bandai Namco platform series. The games follow the lead character as he explores and saves a dream world. Add in the unique 2.5D level design and Klonoa’s ability to inflate the enemy, and you have a series that has never truly gotten the love it deserves.
Endling: Extinction is Forever
Endling: Extinction is Forever combines adventure and survival game elements to tell the story of a fox trying to protect his four children in a world rapidly destroyed by humans. In between moments spent searching for a lost cub, players must also flee from hunters and furriers and find food. Endling: Extinction is Forever is a master at environmental storytelling. Because day in and day out, you’re starting to see trees being cut down, rubbish filling rivers, and beautiful landscapes covered with smoke and dirt.
Bear and Breakfast
Sometimes games stand out because of their weird titles or concepts. Bear and Breakfast is one of these games for exactly this reason; business owner is telling about a bear! While offering beautiful artwork and vibrant spaces for players to explore, Bear and Breakfast isn’t afraid to lean on the simulation elements of its concept, either.
