Best-selling books: a big upheaval and two surprises

Best selling books a big upheaval and two surprises

This time, they are almost all on the starting line, the tenors of the start of the school year. And this is the great upheaval in our list of fictions. As usual, Amélie Nothomb takes the lead with her formidable Psychopomp. Behind her, the regulars of the best sellers: Sorj Chalandon, Laurent Binet, Caryl Férey, François Bégaudeau, Fabrice Caro, Akira Mizubayashi, Serge Joncour, two newcomers to romance, Hannah Grace and Anita Rigins, and the “old” of the genre, Acacia Black, Sarah Rivens, Colleen Hoover, Scarlett St Clair… The only surprises are the presence of director and writer Jean-Baptiste Andrea (and that even before his Fnac award) and that of the ex – chronicler of Daily by Yann Barthès, the primo-novelist Panayotis Pascot, carried by social networks.

In 2017, the director and screenwriter made a fine entry onto the literary scene by winning many prizes with My queen ; likewise, his 3rd novel, Devils and Saints, was it duly awarded; enough to constitute a good core of readers as evidenced by the eruption at the 13th rank of watch over her, the encounter between two seemingly dissonant beings against the backdrop of fascist Italy. A ranking that the price of the Fnac novel should further boost.

Exceptional! Monumental! Such appears the great work of the historian, professor at the ENS of Paris-Saclay, which outlines in 1030 pages (maps with the support) the conflict which caused the death of 60 to 70 million men in the world. A war studied here from all angles (military, economic, social…) and under all latitudes (Europe, Pacific, Africa…).
