The WC in Umeå is the northernmost WC in the summer that has been organized so far. During the past week, 25 sports have taken place both in the center and in scattered places in the city. A total of 11 arenas have been built and 2,500 athletes have fought for the medals.
– It has been fantastic. Umeå has delivered on all levels, says Maria Hallberg, project manager during the SM week.
Big commitment
It is the sports associations themselves that have been responsible for arranging officials and volunteers – almost 1,800 volunteers were on site during the week.
– There are many who have stepped in and made an effort, says Maria Hallberg.
Folk festival
Before the SM week started, the organizers thought it would attract a lot of people, but according to Maria Hallberg, the amount of people has exceeded their expectations.
– What a pulse and atmosphere. It has been fantastic, she says.
