Besard Sabovic returns to Djurgården

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Sabovic chose to break his contract with Russian club FC Chimki after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and was thus free to change clubs.

Over the next 2.5 years, the new club will be called Djurgårdens IF.

“I feel very excited and happy. I have been at home in Stockholm for a while, trained with the team and have watched every home game in place and the away games on TV and thought that I just want to get started as soon as possible,” he says to the club’s website.

The 24-year-old began his career in Djurgården where, however, he never managed to take a regular place. Loans to Dalkurd and Mjällby followed, where there was finally a permanent transfer to Blekingeklubben.

Then there was a season in Turkish Kayserispor before Sabovic signed for Chimki in the Russian top league.

Sports director Bosse Andersson is satisfied with the signing.

“You can see during training that he is a skilled footballer who has previously been on adventures both in Turkey and Russia. Now he feels that he wants to start over in an environment that he feels safe with in an association that is close to his heart . So it is very gratifying that we are bringing in Besard, we know his capacity and know that he will be an important piece of the puzzle in the long term at Djurgården,” he says.

Djurgården plays the return match against Romanian Sepsi (3-1 in the first match) in the qualifiers for the Europa Conference League tomorrow, Thursday.
