English actor Bernard Hill has died at the age of 79, says British broadcasting company BBC.
Hill has acted in, among other things by Peter Jackson in the Lord of the Rings films The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003) directed by King Théoden and James Cameron’s directed the captain of the ship in the movie Titanic (1997).
Hill is the only actor to have starred in two films that have won 11 Academy Awards.
In addition to his most famous roles, Bernard Hill played, for example, prison warden Luther Plunkitt Clint Eastwood in the thriller The Worst Crime, William Cole in the movie Bounty – a mutiny on a ship and Philo in the movie The Scorpion Queen.
He also became known for roles in many different TV series.
Hill’s representative confirmed his death early Sunday morning.
