For German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, the files of refugees from Syria who benefit from subsidiary protection status must be examined. These are Syrians who do not benefit from the right to asylum due to individual persecution, but because of the war in their country.
The end of the regime Bashar al-Assad makes, in principle, a return possible. The minister emphasizes, however, that the security situation on site must be closely observed and that Berlin will coordinate with its European partners.
Syrian refugees who do not have another residence permit in Germany, do not have a job there or are not in training, could be encouraged to return to their country. A program to support voluntary returns must be strengthened. Nancy Faeser also emphasizes that people who are well integrated and have found work remain welcome in Germany.
