Beninese art in Martinique from restitution to revelation

The traveling exhibition “Revelation!” Contemporary art from Benin” has been installed since December 15 at the Clément Foundation in Martinique. Bringing together 42 Beninese artists and around a hundred works, President Patrice Talon came in person to inaugurate it.

Martinique is at the heart of the Caribbean archipelago. It is a French island, but its heart also beats for the African continent, and even more so Beninese at the end of the year.

No less than 42 contemporary artists from Benin will meet you at the Fondation Clément for a major exhibition which once again demonstrates the incredible artistic vitality of this small West African country.

A huge exhibition of around a hundred works bringing together painting, sculpture, installations, video art, drawing, photography, digital art, performances.

A major artistic encounter organized over 1,200 square meters between the cradle of voodoo and the country of Césaire.

With us the general curator of the exhibition Yassine Lassissi, who is also the director of Visual Arts of ADAC, the Arts and Culture Development Agency of Benin. And three artists, the Beninese Eliane Aïsso And Romeo Mivékannin and Martinican Laurent Vavlère.

We also collected the comments of two other artists and not the least, since it is about Romuald Hazoumé and of Georges Adéagbo.

The exhibition ” Revelation! Contemporary art from Benin » can be visited at the Clément foundation, in François, in eastern Martinique, in partnership with ADAC, until March 31, 2024
