The diplomat, social democrat and jazz lover Bengt Säve-Söderbergh is dead. Söderbergh’s family confirms this for Jazzradion in P2.

He died on Thursday after a long illness.

Säve-Söderbergh was active in foreign policy and aid work for a long time, with a great commitment to the countries of southern Africa. He held many positions, including as Palmecentret’s first general secretary, state secretary with responsibility for international development cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Swedish ambassador with special assignments.

He was also passionate about jazz music. He was chairman of the Swedish National Jazz Association in the years 1992–2014 and he took the initiative to create a friend association for the jazz club Fasching in Stockholm.

Bengt Säve-Söderbergh was 84 years old.
